Who is lz-customs?
Here, as a customer, you get an insight into who LZ-Customs is and what we do. Not least how. LZ-Customs started in 2018 as a hobby project where parts were produced on a small scale for own use, friends and acquaintances. We were fed up with the poor selection and not least the quality that was available in Norway. We decided to do something about this! LZ-customs has extensive experience with machining, casting and technical design, this through several family generations. In 2018, we made small parts in leather, alcantara and used 3D printers to solve various problems that might arise. Over a few years, the request became so great that we decided to take the step further. in 2020 we officially opened and expanded greatly. This has given us a large customer group all over Norway and growing in Europe. Today we are based in Hønefoss where we have our warehouse and showroom for you as a customer. If you want to visit, you are most welcome!
PROCEDURE FOR CUSTOM STEERING WHEEL PRODUCTION
STEP 1 (1 HOUR)
All our steering wheels start as original steering wheels. We check that the most important elements on the steering wheel meet the safety requirements. Many players cast ORIGINAL steering wheel base and have hollowing in the steering wheel grip to save materials. No guarantee can be given in the event of a collision. This is dangerous to life and we distance ourselves from this production method.
STEP 2 (2 HOURS)
Once the steering wheel has been checked and passed the safety inspection, we can start. We tear off the old leather, glue and upholstery that sits underneath. Most steering wheels are built with an iron rod in the middle and with pigmented vinyl or rubber/plastic composite. We also tear this off.
STEP 3 (4 HOURS)
Now we are left with the base itself and the iron rod, which is throughout the shape of the steering wheel. The steering wheel is placed in a mold that forms the shape of the steering wheel. In this mold we use poly-urethane. This is the same material that is used on high-quality liners for cars. 2 casting rounds are used. (casting, cleaning, primer, casting) .
STEP 4 (2 HOURS)
When the steering wheel has been cast, casting residues must be removed and the steering wheel must be prepared for further work. Here, it is very important to sand away all unevenness and deformities that may have occurred during casting. Here it must be sanded and the material must have a slightly rougher surface.
STEP 5 (3 HOURS)
NOW heating wires can be mounted in the steering wheel. This is done using wires that are 0.1 mm thick. This is a net that must be microsoldered and adapted to the new shape the steering wheel has taken. The connection on this will be original. When steering wheel heating is installed, the heating wires must be checked. We do this with the help of a thermal camera.
STEP 6 (1 HOUR)
Next on the list is to install padding on the steering wheel. This makes it more comfortable to hold the steering wheel and provides a comfortable grip while driving. For profiled steering wheel sides, we will use less padding.
STEP 7 V1 (LEATHER STEERING WHEEL) (2-4 hours)
All steering wheels are unique and all steering wheels have minimalist differences as everything is handmade. Each and every steering wheel gets a tailor-made leather cover according to your wishes. In this process, glue, heat and patience are used. If you as a customer have ordered an LED display, this will be installed and adapted here as well.
STEG 7 V2 (CARBONRATT) (16-18tim)
We only use Japanese high-grade carbon fiber. Layer by layer of epoxy is applied at 7-hour intervals. The steering wheel is on a special stand that rotates around so that the epoxy is evenly distributed between drying times. Grinding and polishing is a critical part of this step. When this time-consuming process is finished, 4-5 layers of clear varnish are applied. Everything is also wet-sanded for a perfect shine.
STEP 8 (2 HOURS)
The steering wheel undergoes the last quality check. Any irregularities are adjusted and the steering wheel undergoes a crash test. This step is for your safety. When this has been carried out, any LED display must be coded and adapted. We want you to have a quality product that lasts year after year and gives you driving pleasure every time you get into your car.
